Micro internal turning tools for lead-free brass

IFANGER's Swiss-MicroTurn line MTEP offers impressive micro internal turning tools that are five times longer tool-life in lead-free brass than competitors.

Challenge

The restriction of lead-containing free-cutting brass is forcing manufacturers in drinking water applications and the watch and jewelry industry to use alternative materials such as CuZn21Si3P and CuZn42. These "lead-free" variants have higher strength values but pose a challenge. CuZn21Si3P, with added abrasive silicon, stresses tool cutting edges and shortens their service life. The challenge is to develop long-lasting tools despite difficult machining properties that at the same time offer process-reliable chip control to prevent ribbon and tangled chips as well as "bird nests".
